4 Arrows

Once the Pandavas asked Lord Krishna

"What is Kaliyuga? What's expected to happen?"

Krishna said, "I will show you." He shoot 4 arrows 

in 4 directions. 

パンダヴァ兄弟は主クリシュナに、「カリユガとは

何ですか。どんな時代になるのでしょう？」と尋ねた。

すると、クリシュナ神は、4方向に矢を放った。

The 1st arrow landed near a bird singing but the bird 

was also eating a live rabbit. 

最初の矢は、綺麗にさえずる鳥のそばに落ちていた。

だがその鳥は歌いながらも、生きたウサギを食いちぎって

いた。

The 2nd arrow landed near five wells. 4 of them were 

overflowing with water while the middle one was dried up.

2本目の矢は、５つの井戸の傍に落ちていた。４つの井戸から

はふんだんに水が溢れていたが、真ん中の井戸は

干上がっていた。 

The 3rd arrow landed near a cow licking her calf clean but 

Mother cow licked the baby until his skin was injured. 

3本目の矢は、牛の親子の近くに落ちていた。母親は、

子牛を綺麗に舐めてやっていたが、子牛の毛が

擦り剝けるまで舐め続けていた。

The 4th arrow landed on a hill where a big rock 

came rolling down. It crushed all the trees in its way 

but suddenly stopped by a small plant.

4本目の矢は、丘の斜面に落ち、上から

大きな岩が木々をなぎ倒して転がってきた。

やがて岩は、小さなハーブの草にあたりピタリと

止まった。

Krishna explained what the 1st arrow

indicated.

"In Kaliyuga, even priests who praise God 

with a sweet voice commit sins."

クリシュナ神は先ず、１本目の矢について

語った。「カリユガの時代は、綺麗な言葉を

並べ神を語る聖職者さえ、悪事に手を染めるのだ。」

Lord Krishna explained what the 2nd arrow

indicated.

"In Kaliyuga, the rich will have enormous amount of 

wealth while the poor starve."

クリシュナ神は2本目の矢について説明した。

「カリユガの時代は、

貧困層は、飢えに苦しむ中、

一部の人間が巨万の富を搾取する。」

Lord Krishna said what the 3rd arrow

indicated.

"In Kaliyuga, parents love children blindly

and spoil them until they destroy them."

クリシュナ神は、３本目の矢について

語った。

「カリユガの時代は、盲目的に、

無知に子供を甘やかし、

彼らの成長を妨げ無能な人間に

育ててしまう親たちが現れる。」

Lord Krishna then described what 

the 4th arrow signified. 

"In Kaliyuga people fall in terms of 

character and the only thing that 

can save them in the end is the 

Name of God "

主クリシュナは、4本目の矢について

「カリユガの時代は、道徳を

忘れ人格者さえ転落してしまう。

人を救うたった一つの道は、

神の御名を唱えることである。」

と、教えた。

The parable teaches us 

in Kaliyuga, only chanting 

the divine vibrations of 

God's names can purify us 

and save us from samskara.

この寓話では、

悪と欲望が支配するカリユガにおいて

人々を輪廻の海から救うのは、

神聖なマントラの波動で

心を清めることである、

と説いているのです。
